Have not removed the k frame yet,but was wondering when I do so can the t bars be removed from the front rather than from behind.was just thinking of it.I dont know about you boys but this project is almost all i think of lol.any thoughtsssssssssssssss.thanks Don

If the K member is comming out the torsion bars can come with it but...
If you're reinstalling the same bars,go to the back and mark their location, orientation before removing.

They have to come out the back before you remove the K frame I don't think they can come out the front but not sure I just kknock out the back.. Reome the c clip and loosen off the T bars so the adjuster is loose and pound away, with a tbar removal tool or a home made device. In the old days when I didn't have a t bar tool I just clamp 3 or 4 pairs of vice grips on and beat away.

Dang I hate to argue.
Remove the 4 K member bolts and the pin in steering column and the whole works can move about 2.5 inches forward. T-bars will slide out of the rear sockets easier than from the front ones.

Redfish, they can come out the front then? I havn't done it that way before, I've have learned something new if they can.

Yes, the hex-shaped receivers in the frame cross-member are the same size, all the way through. The bars can slide out the front as easily as out the back.

One thing to be cautious about is to not use removal methods that will produce deep gouges in the bars, like jaw marks from Vise Grips. These bars are under a tremendous amount of tension, and any gouges in the surface may create a potential weak spot, leading to catastophic failure.

I`ve read a couple threads where guys have had problems getting them out the rear so they removed them from the front with the K-member. Just remember to take the tension off them at the lower control arm first.

It even helps, sometimes, to remove the upper control arm's rubber bump stop to allow it to drop farther, helping to relieve all tension on the bar.

When I removed mine I done as redfish said. removed the tension from the bars, popped the upper ball joint, unbolted the k member and just pulled it forward. don't drop the k member to far or when the bars come out they will pop up and slap the car. may scare to piss out of ya. Have not put bars back in yet.

I have a question about the tensioner, I'm taking the k frame out of my dart. Ithe tensioner runs in the middle of the lower control arm correct? I have the car on jack stands at the front and rear frame rails. If I"m right about the tension adjuster, my adjuster bolts wiggle around does that mean that they are loose or do the t bars still have tension on them? as far as I can see from the manual I'm in the right place. I think I'm gonna take them out through the front like redfish said. I'm just kinda new to this, and don't want to screw it up. Thanks for any help.

Dan

You may still have a slight load on the bars with thh tension screw loose.
Some suggest remove the stop bumper so the upper arm can lower.
I just pull the uppers attaching bolts or split the upper ball joint , depending on what I'm after.
That bumpers stud is stuck in a square hole through a thin piece of metal. If it rounds out it will be a pain to get out or replace.
