so i may be starting a project with a street driven race slant and a OD trans. im looking at either the 200 or 700R4 trans as i can get the adapter kit easily. anyways my issue is i hear when doing the low gear set in slants they tend to not like the big drop into second even with the big gears, for this reason im thinking of staying away from the 700 as its a 3.06 first!

what do you guys think? motor would spin to 6500 and pull to it, looking at a 4.56 or .88 gear in a 62 lancer, 4-4500 stall

TF904
1st 2.74
2nd 1.54
3rd 1.00

200R4
1st 2.74
2nd 1.57
3rd 1.00
4th .67

700R4
1st 3.06
2nd 1.63
3rd 1.00
4th .70

200R4 for more then the gear ratios. Except for the gear ratio, comparing the 200 and 700 trans is like comparing a 904 and 727. The 200R4 will eat less power. Plus it will fit in the car, easier.

your right ....that is the same problem I have with the 833 OD is the huge drop from first to second...which is 3.09 to 1.67 ....most of the time the car dogs out for a second or two.

I don't know much about 200R4 or 700 R4 but I would stay away from really wide gear sets ...so I would rule out the 700 R4

it looks like the 200R4 and 904 are pretty even except for the addition of the OD which is probably what you want.

great info here ...I have never really driven an automatic car and I never knew a 200R4 had such benefits.

Kid, PM Dart270 over on .org as he has a 200R4 in his street Turbo Injected 68 dart. I'm sure he will tell you all you need to know. Also do a search for Art Carr. He did a story on the reasons why he feels the 200 is better than the 700 . The 200 sounds like the way to go.

thanks guys, just confirming my thought pattern! i know how our slants do with the 904 and dont see any really reason to change it other than getting an OD, 200 it is
