My tranny is starting to show it's age. I have had it in the car for 10 years and behind the 6-71 for the last 5 or so. I noticed last summer that it was not quite as crisp on the shifts, (read soggy). So I am going to address it this winter. I am thinking either have it rebuilt or totally replaced and also replace the cheap converter. I have a B&M that has a stall of 2800 behind a NA engine but who knows what it is behind the blower. It needs to be rebuilt and if I have that done I would have them put an anti ballooning plate on it. Or buy a new one meant for a blower.

Back to the tranny. I suspect that to have my current one rebuilt is going to cost me as much as a new one but only a visit to a tranny shop will tell me that for sure. I'm guessing in the $2000 range. If I go with a new tranny I am thinking of something like this. TCI Competition Transmissions 112100 My setup is a 340 6-71 setup with an estimated 650 to 700 hp. It's never been on a dyno so I don't know for sure. Rear gears are 3.23's. This is a street car that I have fun with and will probably never be on a track.

    Any suggestions?

    Jack

hey jack if i was going to buy a tranny the first one i would call would be CRT or he will do you up a kit to handle all you can throw at it and you can rebuild it yourself i know you have the skills . check your email .

Jack, personally I would avoid TCI if at all possible. CRT or ATI would be my choice.

I sent a request to SMR to see what they recommend and price. We will see.

I have the CRT street/ strip MVB 727 behind my 416 in my 68 Barracuda with a tight 4200 stall Frank Lupo converter. Very pleased with both.

The new CRT trans came with the package deal purchase of my 68 BARRACUDA. The converter I purchased new from Frank Lupo was 895.00. The CRT street/strip trans I think cost like 1800.00.

SMR won't be your cheapest option, but I don't think it's possible to get a higher quality product from anyone else.

Sometimes cheapest is not the lowest priced option at the start. The big things that SMR has going for them with me is a good rep and they are in Canada.

SMR has been around for quite sometime. I've heard only good things about them. So I suppose it's safe to go with them!

Another vote for John at CRT. He built me a 904 that's holding up to my 700 horsepower so you know he can sell you parts to make a 727 live!

I am getting a little disappointed in all these transmission places. I used their (CRT & SMR) online contact procedures and have not got so much as a "we received your message", reply from either of them and it's been about 2 weeks. If they don't want to answer their emails then don't post the email addy as a way to contact them.

How about A&A transmission they also have some nice transmissions and parts or tranz act or even dynamic converter has transmissions to build/sell. Mancini @ one time also had trannys and parts to sell. Just another set of options.

I have looked at what those places have. I just haven't tried to contact them yet. That may happen real soon though.

I would check out A&A transmission and ask to talk to Rick. He's the man to talk to . I use all of his parts in my trans with no troubles and I push it hard. Turbo car 1000 hp.

Ha ha, sounds like you're a lot like me Jack! I want an old school guy doing the work, but I want to interact with people using all the new school technologies!

You might have to call these places to get the response you're looking for.
