I don't know if this applies to the 727 or not but when I bought my diesel pickup with the 47re which is heavily 727 based, the rebuildProbably 90% of all automatics have the same type of lip seals as tfs..but we don't hear about th350s or 400s having morning sickness. Sounds like low fluid level to me.
Kits from transtar come with a modified high gear lip seal.
Apparently Chrysler had a machining defect in the drum groove that the seal fits into causing the lip on the seal to sit to low. Apparently the defect went on for an unknown period of time, so the rebuild kits come with the standard seal and a modified seal to correct the problem. So even if the trans had morning sickness, it was not necessarily from dried out seals. Sonnax also has there own better design of this seal as well to deal with the problem. Again not sure if that applied to the 727 or not, but the drums look identical to me.
