Hi and Happy Holidays,

My 904/converter coupled to my 318 are shot. It seems to shift from 1st to third and skip second all together and there are some noises...

The 318 is stock except the exhaust which consists of headers and 2.5" duals, only future plans are bigger intake, maybe a cam so the 904 should be just fine.

I can get my hands on a good used 904 that used to sit behind a 273.

I'm pretty sure I can put the trans behind my engine, what about the stock converter?

Are the stock 318 and 273 converters the same?

I'm pretty sure my tq is shot as it sounds like a jet engine winding down everytime I decellerate...

tia,
David

I would think the transmissions and converters are about the same (presuming they are both stock). If trans from the 273 should be the same length, so as long as it is not a push botton model and uses the same setup for shifting as you current trans is should fit your application like a glove.

Good luck,

Bob

The only difference in the converters would be year specific. The crank register changed in 1968. '68 up has a larger snout on the converter and can't be used with a '67 or older crank and vice versa. The transmission will work fine.

Thanks guys,

The guy says the trans is out of a '68 so that should fit. To be on the safe side I'll line the converters up side by side and compare.
