I haven’t done one in several years. I don’t remember grinding down the governor valve. I have the bottom one. The instructions state skip this page if shift command feature is not desired. Am I reading this correctly? I don’t want to downshift at any speed so don’t grind it? Secondly the TV valve was about .410 to start. I have it at about 1/2 of what they state at .345 instead of .281. I’ve read on here that .281 can cause issues. I’m thinking I can just adjust it out. I have a Lokar KD cable. Sound ok? Thanks Craig

I have always cut the valve but I use a lathe to do it not a grinder

It's nice to be able to shift to low at will, you just have to know what speed it's good at. To fast and it will skid the rear tires but if you do it right it will slow you down a lot when the brakes are smoking because you have to slow down faster than you thought !

I just did one with my son. We didn't do the shift command. Also you don't have to bolt the plate on either.

And for god sakes don't put the check ball in the "r" hole!
Everything will work fine, but you won't have reverse! Then you'll have to take the pan back off, the valve body back apart, and throw the stupid ball out and put it all back together!
Ask me how I know....:mob:

Don't forget the second time won't be at your sons shop under the car lift it will be at your uncle's house out in the driveway the second time with oil splashing down on you and having to buy another gallon of oil Andre scrape the pan....:BangHead: Oh, sorry...:D

I considered those same options when I did mine, and I added the "1st at any speed" function and I'll tell you why.
I run a Hurst promatic 2 shifter, so going into first would have to be a very deliberate thing.
That function will let me go down to manual first even after the trans would normally not and dropping into manual first at 30-40mph is instant acceleration.
I do know I won't use it if going over 40 though because the motor will be already be topped out and it won't help.

But if you have a column shift I wouldn't add that function.
Too easy to get dropped into first with a lever on the column.

The others filled you in on the governor question.

I have a Lokar that can’t go in first without pressing the button and no chance hitting 1st. I may reconsider grinding the governor valve.

I don’t have hole R or ball this is the 512 plate so neither applies. It’s just a big hole. The TV valve was about .410 to start. I have it at about 1/2 of what they state at .345 instead of .281. I’ve read on here that .281 can cause issues. I’m thinking I can just adjust it out with the Lokar KD. Craig

That just sounds like a personal call? What problems did they say people were having? My son hasn't reported any. I'm sure we ground it to 9/32...

Not kicking down but, this VB has PTK so maybe it won’t matter.
