Transmission identification

Lordie, boy. Mopar 727/904's are one of the easiest boxes in the world to ID

Just look at it. Even in the car just look at the pasenger side pan rail.

If the pan rail is pretty much straight, it's a 904

If the pan has a big bulge near the front of the side rail, it's a 727

In the drawings below, you are looking UP at the bottom of the pans, the passenger side is the bottom of the drawing

The photo below is reversed from the drawing above. You are still looking up at the pans, from the bottom, but the passenger side is now obviously at top

Some transmissions were self contained (non electric) lockup. You can ID them by yanking the converter off and examining the input shaft Lockup shaft is on right
