Do you folks ever run a magnet in you transmission pan, or just let the filter do it's job? I'm about to button up a transmission I've been working on and am wondering if picking up a cheap magnet would be a good idea.

Sure, Many late 80's and up had them in.So why not, I installed them in my older mopes. Can't hurt,,just got to place them in a corner that clears everything.Local hardware store had them.

I bought a magnet from the chrysler dealership and put in the inside corner of the pan.

if its a strong magnet just stick it in don't epoxy. The stock filter is poor it only catches 80 microns or bigger. i used this magnefine in my truck and may pop one on my 727 cooler return line it has a very strong magnet and a paper filter that filters down to 25 microns.

Yes! I just dropped a flat round magnet in mine, don't even know where I got it from. It's almost strong enough to pick up the pan, so I don't think it's gonna move, lol.

Put a magnetic drain plug in it and you can then remove the shavings with the drain plug vs pulling the pan if you don't have to... I usually change fluid twice a year, but only remove the pan for winter maintenance and a filter swap

Pick up a neodymium magnet & there will be no need to use epoxy.

And chances are that you wont be able to pull it off, those things are sick strong. When you buy them a few at a time, they come with a warning about pinch hazards. The factory magnet in my 2002 minivan was covered in a captured magnetic goop.
