When you see the fuel filler tube painted body color, then what you are looking at is just a quick cheap short cut to doing the trunk correctly. The tubes were actually plated when new and not painted silver, but dusting it with some silver paint if needed is way better than body color.

If the tube isn't all scratched up, use some fine steel wool and polish it back till it shines. Then you can clear coat it, so it will stay that way.
