Howdy everyone,

I'm currently working on a '72 Dodge Demon that's on a rotisserie. It was originally a blue, slant six/auto car. It's been completely stripped down.

I'm trying to come up with some ideas on what direction to go with it. Here's what I know what I want to do with it so far:

1) It'll be a resto-mod
2) I'm going to put a Viper T56 manual transmission in the car
3) It will likely have a Strange S-60 rear end
4) Custom dash gauge, probably from Peak Dashes
5) I don't plan on putting a roll cage in it, so it won't need to go faster than 11.49 at the quarter mile
6) I may mini-tub it
7) It will be a street car that I can take to the drag strip here and there
8) I plan on spending money on the suspension for good handling

So that leaves me with deciding on what engine to put in it. I'm looking for a good balance between drivability (okay MPG, not single digits) and power; I'll be driving the car on the weekend and would also like to drive it to work a couple times a week, so I'm not really considering huge stroker engines (496, 512, etc.)

Here's what I'm thinking about so far:

1) B Block - 383, 400, 432 (Stroker), 451 (Stroker), 470 (Stroker)

I'd really like a B Block in the car since it'll fit better than a RB engine plus I like the idea of having a distributor in the front.

I could start out with a 383 with good compression just to get the car on the street and later build a 432 or a 451. A stock stroke 400 is also a possibility as long as buying custom pistons/rods to get decent compression doesn't cost more than just building a 451.

I'm kinda iffy on a 470; might be too much for what I'm thinking about.

2) LA engine

I could also build a 408 and start out with a 360 for now. Or a 340 block with an older 3.79 stroker crank, if I can even find a 340.

The small block would be cool in the sense that it would be a "legacy" engine, so to speak, for the Demon since that's what they came with.

That said, I'm not too drawn to the small block option, even a 408, mainly because I like the "extinct appeal of the big block.

3) RB engine

A 440 may be cheap for the power, but I think I'm a little hesitant about shoehorning a RB motor into the car.

What do you all think? Any input would be appreciated; I haven't made up my mind yet, so if you disagree with me, I still want to hear it.

Thanks!

While I know very little about the swap.......With the amount of mods & coin you're putting into that bad boy, It sounds like a real good candidate for a late Hemi to me?

If it was me I'd do the 408 and try to make it as light as possible for the better handling aspects.
