Just to widen my basic Mopar knowledge base, who knows what model year Chrysler changed over from the older two-wire alternator to the newer three-wire alternator style? Thank you.

Started using the isolated field alternator in 1969 with the Imperials and 1970 with the rest of the lines.

So to not confuse the issue...

When you refer to 2 wire you are referring to ONE field wire and ONE charge wire.

This is typical of the "Round back" alternators

When you refer to 3 wire, you are referring to "isolated field" TWO field wires and ONE charge wire. This is typical of the "Square back" alternators.

FYI. At some point there were round back style alternators with isolated field (2 field wires)
(And yes an isolated field alternator can be converted to a non isolated field)

As for cut over dates see above posts.

There were also optional heavy duty alternators, some made by Chrysler and others made by Leece Neville.

Notice there are three terminals on the regulator. Power supply line J2B - Blue connection is seperate from the lead to the alternator field brush. Never seen one in real life. I did see some more info from Chrsyler but didn't bookmark or save it. woops.
