Hello fellow readers, I have a question. I am replacing the joint on my driveshaft for a 1975 Plymouth duster with a V8. This is the U joint that connects the driveshaft to the rear end. When reinstalling the new part, I am uncertain if this is correct. The u joint Housing appear to not be flushed with the outer yolk. Is this protrusion bad? I can install the center clips but not sure if this is right. I have also attached a photo with comparison to the original U joint, which appears to be a bit shorter.

As long as you can install the retaining clips 100% and the "other side" of the u-joint is the right size to fit the yoke, you're good to go.

100% normal

after the center clips are installed can you PRESS the cups either direction? DO NOT APPLY TOO MUCH FORCE just enough to see if there is movement.

What I see is the slot for the new cups is wider than the slot for the old cups.

Are the new clips the same width as the old clips?

The yokes on 7260 and 7290 U joints locate from the inner edges

Measure this before installing the U joint (or on the uninstalled end)

As long as the distance from the outside of the red retainer to the outside of the red retain with the U joint cups fully seated and the retainer against the inner most slot shoulder measures the same (maybe a couple thou smaller) then the inside to inside of the yoke your fine.
