How much do you think all the undercoating under my duster weighs? The reason I ask is Im trying to save weight and Its already falling off, So I was planning on taking it all of and then spraying the underside with some black rust preventer

If you want to remove it don't make dust out of it because it's not good for you. Anyways you might look like a raccoon (fellow member already did that maneuver). I have found that a small hand held blow torch and scraper will remove it without a total mess. Remember gas and fire don't go together well.

Heat gun and 2in puddy knife, round corners of the knife so you dont hack into the paint...

K, thanks guys I know how to take it all off now, but I asked How much do you think it all weighs

Eat a salad once in a while and you will easily make up the difference.

If it is thick as my 67 cuda, I`d say 100 lb ha. but I`m glad it`s that thick cause my complete undercarrage is rock solid. how many late model cars ya think will last 42 years without rust through?

ha eat a salad, I weigh 175 and im 19 I need to be at least 200 im 6'3. haha So the car is the one that needs a salad

Come on, Go on the diet. Im all most 31 and Im only 155. And Im just under 6'

Really, The under coating doesnt weigh as much as you think.

I read somewhere that factory undercoating added nearly 200 lbs. I find that hard to believe, even on a C-body. A mathmagician might calculate the wieght (numb3rs) or you could skin all of it off a weigh it.

First, figure out how many sq foot of undercoating the car has. Then I would say that a sq foot of under coating would not weigh more than 2 lbs. But I am not for sure. I will be removing my undercoating this winter, then MAYBE sweep some up and weigh it. Just for fun that is.

You might want to tape off a square foot, scrape the undercoating off inside the lines, and weigh that first. That way, you could get a pretty good lb./sq.ft. number for all to use when calculating the weight of the stuff on their cars. My guess is that it will weight in the ounces/sq.ft. range.
