My 72 Demon is loaded with it. I have tracked down and talked to 2 previous owners and confirmed that the car is basically solid. Question is what was the standard undercoating practice from Ma Mopar in the day. Oh, should I leave it on there or go thru the pain of removing most of it?
 
Standard was inside of the quarters and wheel wells. All cars received this. If you go the option undercoating/sound deadening the entire bottom of the car was sprayed and the car would get a hood insulation pad unless it had hood scoops, then the pad was omitted.

Dealer added under coating could be sprayed any place.
 
if you dont have to repair rust in areas that are coated i would leave it. as long as its all solid nothing hanging off leaving ares to trap moisture. its a pain to remove, and unless you are going for mirrors under the car at shows to see your detaild floors, its not going to hurt anything to leave it.
 
A friend of mine removed the undercoating on a '70 GTX. What a "frickin" mess! Spend almost a year on it. Putty knives, chisels, hammers, solvents and a number of other tools. Never did get it all off. If it were me, I'd leave it alone. Just my opinion.
 
heat gun softens it up pretty good, but then you still have to scrape. and there is still some left you can scrup it clean with solvent. but once you start you are kind of committed.
 
I was told you can spray PB blaster on it and let it sit over night and the stuff will come right off. I havent tried it yet though.
 
Ugh, Ok I convinced -it stays, my bad back couldnt take the abuse LOL. And no this is a driver no a show car so thats thats.
 
Would you have a code on your fender tag for the undercoating? I supposed it could have been done at anytime by anyone after the fact however.
 
my new 74 duster has the whole bottom done. im not messing with it. its nice and clean. my 69 dart only has it in the wheels houses and bottom of the inner fenders. nothing on the floor. it is like a tar base so pretty much any solvent will cut it, but then you have to seal with a gooey mess and the fumes plus the cost. wire wheel on a grinder rips it off but sends it everywhere. heat gun seems to be the best method. no real fumes and once you scrape it off it hardens back up. on my dart i cleaned it up real good and gave it a few coats of oil base rust oleum gloss black to seal it and make it easier to keep clean.
