Checked out the engine today since I was local and the guy was home. Well it was just as he said...clean, disassembled, oiled, and bagged. Looked great except for one small detail... it's a 383. The guy was much more surprised than I was. I guess the donor car he bought was originally a 400, but was replaced at some point with a 383. Well maybe I'll cross paths with another one before it's time to drop an engine in this thing.
Value of unknown 400 engine.

I have a 400 block that I was saving for a future 451 engine for my Barracuda or B body in my future.

Unless the block passes a mag check it is JUNK . I agree $300 is fair , if, it passes . I suggest you offer the person $150 and you have it magged . If it passes mag give him an additional $150 for the block . Bargain for the rest of the engine .
