is it possible to get the VIN # from the fender tag? i have a 1970 duster drag car that doesnt have a VIN #. i am trying to do some research on it and didnt know if it was possible to backwards trace the VIN #.

the last 12 as in how you read the vin bottom to top left to right, or last 12 as in how they are on the tag?

now with that said, does the core support and quarter panel numbers match the fender tag vin? If so, then you have put the body together with the fender tag.

the top lip of the core support left side. There might be a sticker over it and sometimes it is painted over. Normally you can feel under the lip for the indentation. Place a piece of paper under it and get a rubbing of the number the last 6 of vin should be included in those numbers. The other vin is normally on the left quarter panel on the trunk seal lip again feel under it and get a rubbing.

Sometimes cars get in accidents and one of these numbers are not there (replacement panel) or different (panel from another car).

There are other places to look also but these are the easiest to find. If they do not pan out then we will venture down that road.

The rear numbers on a Duster are not usually in the trunk rail area. Look on the package tray, driver side, between speaker hole and window channel.

Ok I will check it out. It was only driven for 2 years I was told when I bought it. It was turned into a drag can and has been since 1972.

New here so just wondering is anyone can decipher these vin tag numbers . When i figure out how to post a picture i will ( or if anyone can explain how to do it )

Is it tubbed? If it is, it sounds like a car that used to be local to where I live in NC. If it's the same car, it got tubbed in 1975 or 1976.
