Vintage C&D: 1976 fastest cars in America (great showing for Dart Sport 360)

You guys might enjoy this one. While '76 was a banner year for horrible car performance, a few leftovers from better times were still around...including one of our own (though in its last model year).

Car and driver rounded them up to compare these tepid hot rods...and took plenty of opportunities to complain about catalysts (which the Dart/Duster 360 still didn't have ) along the way.

Regardless, it's pretty cool to see the Dart Sport holding its own against the Vette and beating the Trans Am in this comparison. Check it out!

i have a 75 dart sport hang ten... not a 360, but i read about this article recently and I thought it was pretty sweet to see the dodge dart being compared to the vette...wish we could say the same today, curse the new dart

I had a 76 Cobra II and I can vouch for it's last place finish in this test. The Dart may have gotten second place, but C&D wasn't heaping a bunch of praise on it.

Of the bunch the T/A wins the most valuable nowadays, even beating the vette hands down!

The 1976 'Matador' has to be mentioned..........

Easily in the Top 250 of the 'Fastest Cars of 1976'
