So I removed the old crusty vinyl off my roof today and to my suprise there was not one spot of rust. Everyone I talked to said there would be rust.

Anyways What have you guys used to take off all the glue and stuff.
I was thinking about just sanding it and then primer it. I also thought of using a stripper like the Aircraft stuff but that makes a wet mess.

Let me know any techniques that worked well for you guys or any to steer clear of.

Thanks

Justin

Are you replacing the top or just painting it?

I would imagine a Rough Grit paper at first, followed by Finer and Finer Paper, until desired texture....

When the car is repainted b5 blue it will most likely get the vinyl top put back on unless i change my mind. However it will not get painted for a year or so but it does not get rained on because it is in my garage.

I used paint stripper... it was nasty stuff but it got the old residue off quickly. I thought about sanding it but the 20 minutes of using paint stripper seemed better then 60+ minutes sanding. I would make the same choice again.

36 grit on a DA or slow speed sander will take the glue and paint off pretty easily. Then you can prime. It'll go fast - or you can use stripper as suggested already.
