Kind of interesting how things work Ddaddy I weigh 130 and am 5'6" at the age of 63 I weighed the same for many years and would like to gain some weight but not happening I just don't eat much but am very active most of the time.
I feel like most people over weight and not happy the way I look so throw a few pounds my way.

Sure, I still have plenty more to lose and you can have as much of it as you want! :)

Ok, it took me a while to work up the courage to do this. I bought a skin tight work out shirt for when I begin weight training in the next couple of months. Today I decided to put it on and take a base line photo now that I am at 250 lbs.

I was a bit anxious about seeing what I would look like in it and had no intentions of ever posting it until much later as a comparator pic after I had been working out for a while.

I decided that I might as well show it now and be proud of having lost 65 lbs and not worry about it. I felt like I was just coping out if I waited until I had a progress pic to put next to it.

Oh yeah, and remember those new polo shirts I was so proud to be wearing this summer? This is a comparison of how one looked on me at the end of August and how it looks on me today. I didn’t realize I had shrank this much since then.

Well you've been an inspiration to me. Over the past two months I've managed to drop about 17# and went down 3 holes in my belt. Gained some upper body muscle but dropped some fat. Gonna have to get a new belt soon but probably not until after the holidays. LOL! Thank you, and keep it up!

A lot of people don't realize gaining weight can be as tough as losing weight and a lot of problems come with being underweight, same as overweight.

A weight problem is a weight problem no matter which way it goes.

I have struggled with my weight not being where I wanted till now that I am finally where I want to be. (90 at 4'7")

This thread is a great read and fantastic inspiration.

Well, today I reached my goal of weighing under 250 lbs by Christmas! Woohoo!

Now I have a solid shot at being at 248 lbs by New Years.

Awesome. I missed my Christmas goal of 205, but I'm still down to 212 from 236 lbs
last Thanksgiving. 195 gets a little closer each month!

LOL! Thanks guys! I think my socks and shoes are the only pieces of clothing I’m not shrinking out of!

A friend gave me a half dozen new dress shirts for Christmas the next size smaller and in athletic cut as a nice gesture of support and motivation to keep going. I want to be able fit into them by next Fall!

I kept a shirt and a pair of pants from when I started this journey and now that I am half way to my goal, I decided to take some pics in them.

I always wanted to be able to do this!

That's fantastic, Dave. Are you using a computer program to track your progress? And how exactly did you figure your caloric intake at the beginning so you would know how much to knock off?

                                      Thanks!

Since my weight was fairly steady for the month before I started, I just just recorded what I ate for 2 weeks and then used that average intake as my starting number. I cross checked with a bunch of online calculators and found them to all be close to the number I reversed calculated from my intake.

Then I just knocked 300 calories off what I was eating every day. Just a little off every meal so that it added up to 300 calories less each day. I record my weight on the last Sunday of every month in a spread sheet and track as I go. I should average 2.5 lbs lost each month and when I noticed I was only losing 1 lb per month in couple of consecutive months, I just reduced my intake by another 150 calories and it came right back on target. I repeated it every time I saw the pattern.

I determined that my burn rate was around 3300 calories per day when I started and it’s at 2800 calories per day now. My starting intake goal was 3000 calories per day and now it is 2500 calories per day. I now eat 800 calories less per day than before I started.

My feeling is that had I started trying to reduce more than 300 calories at the beginning, I never would have been able to adapt and stick with it so easily. I’m also not a fanatic about it either, it’s about long term averages so I don’t worry if one day doesn’t hit the goal or just breaks even.

Eventually the perseverance will take care of the ups and downs along the way.

My mother-in-law just asked me how my dieting is going.

It occurred to me in an epiphany that this is the fundamental issue with the concept of losing weight that many people have....and why so many can’t make it stick.

The word “Diet” is not (nor should be) considered a verb.

The word “Diet” is a noun...it is what types and amounts of food someone consumes on a regular basis.

“Diet” as a verb means an action...like an action to take to lose weight.

The verb definition is intrisically flawed for true long term weight loss or maintenance. An action is short lived and not sustainable.

I don’t “Diet”...I reduce the number of calories WITHIN my diet to lose weight without changing what I eat. The verb is “reduce”.

Subtle maybe...but to me, it is profound.

My battery died in my 2006 Charger SRT about 2 weeks ago and today I decided to swap it out.

Pulling the battery and putting in the trunk of the 300 was the easy part. Walking 75 yards into the store with the 50 lb core and another 75 yards back to my car with the new battery was the hard part.

Holy crap, walking that far carrying and extra 50 lbs close to my chest was enough to make my back and knees ache. How the hell was I was ever able to walk around 24/7 carrying the 65 lbs I have lost back then?

After today, I’m just glad I’m not carrying it anymore! It was a painful reminder of what my existence used to be.

Well, it’s Christmas Eve and time to enjoy friends and family, food and drink. So, I am declaring a personal hiatus from any concern about caloric intake for the next 36 hours.

I’m not giving myself a pass to eat like mad, I'm just not going to think about it and enjoy the holiday without concern.
