Well the Marines finally tore it down

Some of you may know I was stationed at NAS Miramar in the seventies. Now the Marines have it, and occasionally I visit Google or Bing maps to see the "progress." Tonight I happened to catch a still remaining old photo on Bing of the Auto Hobby Shop building where I used to have a part time job. It has been torn down, and the adjoining storage lot has had some buildings built in there

Also the impound yard has been repurposed and something built there. The buildings to the S (bottom of photo) were not there at the time. According to the base map, this is still the (now renamed) "Auto Skills Center"

You'll notice in the above map that NONE of the operational airfield "stuff" is included on the map online

In this photo from Bing is the old building. The left side was a wood working and other? crafts hobby building. My allen tune up machine occupied the middle doors, and there was either one or two hoists inside. there is or was two outdoor hoists at the bottom right corner of the building. This is where the two morons were having a grease "lugey" shooting contest with the pneumatic lubesters over the fence into the impound yard. Of course they had no idea who those cars belonged to.

At the time I was there the bulding(s) in the other photo at the bottom (S) were not there, it was all outdoor stalls

Times change. The building where I took auto shop from 80-83 was torn down to be replaced by our ever expanding medical center. Every time I ride by I remember it. Had a lot of good times there.

Here is an interior shot of "about a third" of that shop. That's me standing with the instructor, James P. Lovett (RIP). This had to be at least 81, because that's my best friend's coat on the chair with the orange lining. He didn't come to that school until 81 when he was kicked out of the local Catholic school for breaking dress code everyday wearing torn jeans and flannel shirts.

Makes you feel old knowing anyplace you've been or worked is tore down, sold, out of business

Went to boot at RTC/ NTC Sand Diego, it's closed

Went to electronics A school at Treasure Island........closed

RADAR "C" school, Glynco GA, ...........closed

and then to Miramar.........it's back in the hands of the Marines, and very little there is as I remember.

No place I worked is still in business, either
