Were all the "230" blocks the thick wall "cold weather" blocks or just some?

No. Not all were, toward the end of the run the change was made to 1974 web specs. You can have 2 73 230 block with different thickness in the main webbing area.

I buy any 400 I can, save the ones with good sonic check numbers.

Absolutely agree! I just have an opportunity to go look at a block and wanted know if it was worth the trip.
