If anyone is in the L.A. area that needs to rescue/adopt a dog, this would be the place! http://www.sheprescue.org/index.htm They do out of state adoptions too. I've been checking out this site for almost a month now watching the dogs come and go and reading their stories. One dog had bullet in his eye, another lost all his toes on his back left leg. They found another with an invisible fence collar on, apparently they dont work. Some were starved, some just plain old got lost.

Retired Police and War dog trainers get a discount on adoption fees too.

If I had a ranch, I'd take them all and have my own pack of shepherds. :grommit: Just kidding, but I probably would start a rescue of some sort for these guys.

Someone, give a dog a break and be his best friend. He'll love you forever for it!

Ramcharger:

Check out the following link to one of my previous posts. The last picture in my original post shows our GSDs. The one in the middle, Madi, came from a South Carolina kill shelter. My wife found her on the Tampa Bay GSD Rescue website. She had been shot in the hip...and God only knows what else had happened to her... We've had her almost a year now and she is a FABULOUS addition to the family. (I tried to upload just the jpeg photo but the system told me that the file was too big)

Just thought that you'd like to know that there are some like-minded FABO Members reading your posts. We'd give them all a home if we could...

Ray,

Your GSDs are stunning! It's good to know that there others out there that think like me and my wife. It seems as if Madi got real lucky when she found your wife!

I've got a rot/shep mix named Maxi and a pure GSD named Turbo. We got both from a shelter. The laws here state no more than 3 dogs, but we are moving to a larger lot (1/2 acre) and may adopt another. Heres a few pics for ya!

What?! You drive a Chevy? Pardon me while I rip your tires off!! LOL!

Sorry, couldn't help it. They've got this girl up for adoption and she is striking at only a year old.

Ramcharger:

Your dogs are beautiful! So is that girl that is up for adoption; hopefully someone will quickly give her a home...

I'm trying to figure out how the Chevy comment ties in to all of this; you must have seen a list of my vehicles somewhere. I actually have two: a tubbed & caged Camaro and a '67 Malibu project that I picked up a few months back. The Malibu will get finished & sold (hopefully at a profit), and the Camaro has a narrowed 8.75" under the rear if that helps at all...! LOL! I bought the Camaro years ago just to get the Dana, coilovers, & ladder bars that came with it for one of my Dusters. One thing led to another and I ended up putting the thing together...and I just kept it for no particular reason... The four Dusters & one Swinger ought to tip the scales back in my favor, don't you think...??? 8)

Actually, I drive a Mazda PU most days. That's probably even worse than a bowtie as that is just a Phord Ranger with an ugly grill... (It's been a darn good little truck though...)

Ray,

Honest to God I did not know you own/built some Chevy's. I not really brand prejudiced, but saw the look on this girls face and I had to come up with a caption. No offense intended, I swear, lol!

A buddy of mine in high school used to have a real '69 chevelle SS, 4 speed 396. That car was truly fast and we used to work on it in my garage together.

When I was a professional mechanic I used to have to work on everything and I always enjoyed having the allen head screw on the points to adjust dwell on GMs. Remember points? lol!

Very nice looking dogs. They need all the publicity they can get. Thanks for posting the info here. I can't adopt a dog now, I already have two huge black labs. We make a large donation every year to the local no kill shelter. Every little bit helps.

gts,

I made a big donation when I got my two from the local no-kill. I tripled the adoption fee.

OUTSTANDING!

GTS is right - every little bit helps...

Ramcharger - That's too funny about the chebbies...you just lobbed a dart into the darkness and it hit the bullseye!!! I take a lot of crap about the "Doesn't fit the rest of the theme Camaro" from some of my buddies. One of the best one-liners was "Oh yeah, that's right, I forgot that you graduated from high school back when they just handed out F Bodies to the bottom 10% of the graduating class..."

I adopted my gsd from a shelter when he was 8 months old. Hes 11 now and has been the best dog I have ever had, with the exception of his first 2 days in our house and tore it apart. he was the first dog I ever crate trained but he graduated to a bedroom than the full run of the house. Dont get between him and the kids.
first thing I did was changed his name from chevy to Bo, I just couldnt have a chevy in a home of dodges.

Ramcharger  Thanks for bringing this up:cheers:
It gave me a great idea.
I could donate time at our animal shelter here in My town of 55.500 people.
Only problem I would have would be hart brake.
I have one in the house and a 205lb st.bernard outside that keeps me busy
He is a friend too, He watches over my space on the hill.:salute:
I sure do miss Socket:angel7: He was a great fiend and provider of security.
He took the trim off a 2000 model Catty when it backed to close to him.
He and I spent many hours togetther four over 5 years. I could put him on a leash and we sure could put on a show. I leash trained hem from a pup and
new allot of camands and hand signs.

I wish you and you soon to be wife had ten time more room.

Socket and a few Canadians have enjoyed so good times.

good job to all that rescue dogs!!!

that is all i will do. i am pre approved at the berkeley animal shelter for pit bulls. i adopt/rescue them beacause there are so many that get put down because dogfighting is still going on in the bay area. its sad since they and other dogs in the shelter have so many positive things about them. i don't think i will ever pay a breeder for a dog. i feel better that i rescued a dog and gave it a better life.

Ray:
Sorry about that, I truly didn't aim that caption at you or anyone else. My apologies if I offended anyone.

Get your GSD pics up here! You can shrink them with MS photo editor or a bunch of other free editors like Picasa.

Dodge-n-it:
Very cool! GSDs just have something very special about them. And you're right, they take some work and they'll even teach someone a bit about themselves too, but the reward is tremendous.

Mike:
Great idea! It might be a bit heartbreaking at first but imagine all the dogs and families you'll help along the way. I wish I had the time or I'd volunteer too.

Did Socket really tear the trim off a Caddy? Dammm! My first GSD was named Rocky and I'll never forget him. I've had GSDs or GSD mixes ever since. I had a date at my apartment and we were havin' a few drinks sittin' on the couch. Well, she told a joke than slapped my leg. Rocky jumped on the coffee table and grabbed her arm and growled. She freaked and I told her not to move. I told him "drop it", and of course he did. He then went and got all his toys and dropped them by the front door, then sauntered over to the couch and sat with his back to us. It was her or him. He was right, she left. I found out later she dated a friend of mine and ripped him off. Good boy Rocky!

Redfastback:
What you're doing is great. Unfortunately some people get dogs for the wrong reasons, and your righting some serious wrongs. I wish I could do as much as you're doing for your favorite breed.

Ramcharger:

Please relax - no offense taken on the chebbie thing; I thought it was funny.

Here's a picture of Quinn & Leyna. This almost exactly three years old because Leyna was a baby when taken. I don't have any other pics on this computer - I'm traveling and using my laptop. I'll post some more pics (so as to not leave out Madi) when I get home this weekend

Ramcharger had my Wife Ohhhing and ahhhhing over the availiable Sheps up for adoption. Our Mutt came from a shelter and growing up all of our pets came from no-kill shelters too.

Good for you! Beautiful dogs you have there...

ramcharger, i wish i had as much land as you might soon have! i would do the same and try to clear out the shelter and have a ton of dogs! since that is unrealistic(who in the hell wants to clean up that much poop!?) i'll stick to the 2 i got.

Ray:
Good looking dogs! Your black GSD looks really healthy. I was thinking of another caption for the GSD picture: "So tell me more about this Michael Vic guy."

Fastback:
Glad your wife enjoyed it. There really are some stunning GSDs up for adoption. I was hoping with this thread that if I could just put one good person/family together with one adopted GSD, I could make a positive change in someones life.

Redfastback:
Thanks for reminding me of my poop patrol dutys, lol! Yeah, 3 would be the max until we get a 40 acre ranch. Anymore than that and we'd need a Bobcat.

As ramcharger said,Did Socket really tear the trim off a Caddy? Dammm!

It sure would been cool to get it on a video

He sure did,[-o< I had to walk out and get the plastic chrome trim off the ground and had it back to him and apologize for his bad manners and he said he needs a dog like that. " Car dealer " That had more on his mind then selling me a car.
Socket sure could figure folks out too.:stop:

I may call the humane place today.:thumleft:
Thanks ramcharger.:salut:

Once we get the new house we'll be adding a second shedder to our herd. And yes, it is going to be a German Shepard. Thanks again for posting the link. Like you said, if you can get ONE dog into a GOOD home, it's an effort well spent.

Thank you Fastback340! You made my day.

There's times I'd rather be surrounded by dogs instead of people. I trust them a whole lot more.... 8)

Actually the shedding can be controlled with proper training; our trio are trained to shed only on days that end in "y"... You gotta love 'em!!!

Good job & enjoy. You cannot go wrong with a GSD.

:)

That seems to be our problem, too. Absolutely love my two GSD's. Even have a soft spot for the extra one that lays around on the floor, all over the floor. Everywhere.

Sure glad we have wood floors, only one room with carpet. Thought about getting one of those "Roomba" vacuum cleaners, but figured it would choke to death in a couple days.

Good on ya, Ramcharger. A friend of mine works/donates time for a local Rottie rescue. She has a real nice GSD/Rottie cross up for adoption right now. I just can't justify three dogs. Even though the wife would love it.
