Well I was intending to try and get a little work done on the truck tonight... instead, I got treated by a supplier we do business with to some kart racing at track21houston. This is NOT your run-of-the mill go-kart track, this is an air-conditioned indoor track with real racing karts. Well, maybe not real racing carts, but they are no slouches. They have a full tube frame with a 9hp Honda four stroke motor, no governor and a centrifugal type clutch. They use a 'live axle', which means both rear wheels are pulling, and a disc brake.

There were three of us in the group, and we were the only ones on the track for two heats of 16 laps each. Talk about fun, these things were a blast to drive. It took a few laps to calm down and quit throwing the rear end out on the turns. And after it was all done, I somehow managed to eek out the best lap time of the night. I ran a 26.207 seconds on the very last lap of the second heat. :supz:

We were on the F1 track which is 1100 feet around. If I calculated this right, 1100 feet in 26.2 seconds comes out to an average speed of 28.62mph. Not too bad for a rookie. The track record is 23.11 seconds, which comes out to 32.45mph. I won't be challenging that anytime soon.

After the adrenalin rush from racing wore off, we headed out to eat dinner. Kart racing must really work up an appetite, cause we all ordered 16oz fillets with all the trimmings. And of course the supplier picked up the tab. Yes, is was a very good night indeed.

Very cool! I have a friend who is into go kart racing. His kid, who is 7, races! Those cars go over 40MPH - which is a lil scary when you see a bunch of 7 year olds racing.
