What advice would you give your younger self?

-
Oooh Oooh! Another!

There's nothing wrong with stopping at six or eight drinks. No need to get to "Someone could have gotten killed (or locked up)" territory.
Don't let the only reason you made it home be "dumb luck."

Believe it or not, it'd probably help your social life, too.

– Eric

I would tell my younger self that I don’t know everything and to make sure I wear that condom.

Don't sell your 71 Duster 340 4 spd with the dana 60 to finance your honeymoon. You'll be divorced in 12 years.

If she won't marry you for free...

...perhaps you should rethink if you want to marry her.

Don't give in to peer pressure. I don't know how many dumb decisions I made based on that.

Buy the 69 R code Mach 1, don't wait just because it needs work!

Also buy the 70 Challenger R/T triple black 440 car. Transmissions are cheap!

That had to hurt!

We met with our financial planner a while back, and one of our retirement budget expenses is $75k for a ‘69 Mustang. Still have to wait a couple/three years, as we have some house upgrades/expenses to take care of first, but by the time I’m 65 I should be driving another ‘69 Mach 1! Don’t think I’ll be able to afford an R or Q code car by that time, given how expensive they are getting, but if all goes well….

*start your own business and build a brand to sell later.
*Don't join the Army, the government will leave your *** hanging in the breeze for a decade when you need help the most after the economy tanks.
*Don't take that Government job, go to college to get an Engineering degree.
*Buy tools, a lift, a House and bigger shop than you think you'll ever need and an extra acre for storing project cars as young as possible.
*anything that is put up for sale used was a mistake made by the seller.
*Buy as much as you can before 2012.In late 2011 business and corporations started adopting the 80/20 pricing rule. It starts again in 2017, By 2020 80% are priced out and things become unaffordable for all but the upper 20% with disposable income.

Drop out of school as soon as possible get a decent job bank a bunch of money build up credit and buy as many tri plex, industrial lots, storage yards, property on the edge of town as I can.

Truth be told Jim...I had a 67 Mustang when I was in my teens and my Dad had a 289 4 BBl Fairlane wagon. There was a bar with a county liquor license that was open one hour later than all the bars in the city limits. So Larry Paro and I decided to take the old Stang out there for one last beer at 1A.M. There was a really steep ditch going into the parking lot with a culvert that exited on either side of the lane. I backed out to leave at 2A.M and hit the culvert clamp that held the screen on the end. It sliced a gaping hole in the gas tank and the car stalled a couple of seconds later. We knew the bar owner, so we just left the car there. The next day we bought a 5 gallon plastic tank, plopped it in the backseat and rigged it to get the car home. The old Stanger had so much rust in the trunk and rear quarters the next day the gas tank fell out of the car and was laying in my dad's driveway under the car. I drove that car for several years with the plastic tank but we relocated it on some sheet metal we riveted in the trunk. That was my last Ford. So a 1969 Mach 1 would have looked pretty good to me!

Ah, yes! Catching Last Call and closing down the Muni with a rusted out, POS Ford! Back in my younger years I can’t say I hadn’t done that myself a time or two……and ended-up walking home.

When I was at the U of M (mid 80’s) somehow we got into the habit of making a last minute (and fast) drive up to Duluth just so that we could catch Last Call at Grandma’s Saloon. Ever heard of Grandma’s Marathon? Same place. Anyway, one night it was my turn to drive, and my Mercury Monarch left all 5 of us stranded up there….

That was the last time I was asked to drive, oddly enough.

Yeah, it was complete but had a cracked block. Solid body, red with black interior, rear window louvers, shaker, stripes, C6 and only 60k miles. $250.00 in 1980. :BangHead:

Never heard of Grandmas...ours was The Topper...Notably known county wide as Beasty Hour! One more confession. I once traded a 1967 Fastback Barracuda parts car for a cream puff 4 door 302 Mercury Montego. How's that for blasphemy. It was for a good cause as I didn't need it. My friend had a grandparent die and he had inherited the Montego right before a deer accident with his 67 Notchback. The Montego got me back and forth to college for a couple of years. (mid 80's as well LOL) It truly was a sweet old car.

We used to go from the Legion, they closed at midnight, to the Norwood hotel a block west, they closed at 1 AM, then to the Windsor Park Inn about 2 miles east, they closed at 2 AM, and the off sale closed at 2:30, so we'd pick up a case of "road beers". Yeah, that's one of the peer pressure things I referred to.

Another thing I would tell my younger self;
Don't adopt that dog when you're 16, you ain't mature enough or dedicated enough to looking after him properly, and giving him to your asshole brother is an even bigger mistake. The dog deserved a much better life.

We had to go to Indiana to get the 2 to 3 AM last call. 2 AM was the max for Iroquois county Illinois.
