What advice would you give your younger self?

-
Find God a lot sooner.
You are not responsible for things that happened when you were a child.
Don't be afraid to make mistakes.
Listen more than you speak.
Don't be afraid to ask for help.
It is ok to tell someone no.

Just for myself?

Ok

There is gonna come a day when you're on your way home from school with "the chubber" (everyone called him that, I can't even remember his name now)

You will stop to look at a shopping bag left in the middle of the path and it will have a couple of VHS tapes in it

Don't take any of em home, and dont go to the chubbers house to watch em

Let em be, or they will turn into a lifelong struggle for you

Buy that ‘70 ‘Cuda 440 6 pack for $350, fix the thrown lifter, then don’t sell it for at least 30-40 years. It will be worth a fortune in the future. Also, keep an eye out for Qualcomm stock, then sell it before the market tanks. The ‘Cuda was from 1979 and the Qualcomm stock was from late 90s, just to cover all bases.

#1 . Slow down and enjoy the day, they go by so fast.
#2 . Buy your first house even if it is somewhat of a struggle, you have many more years to save money.
#3 . Talk to your children about life, not the sex part, but how to pick your friends wisely, you only need one great one.
#4 . Find a woman who agrees with 1, 2, 3, and treat her like the Queen, you want her to be.

I have occasional conversations with 15/16 year old me, and sometimes with 10 year old me.

We are still good with each other after all these years.

Actually, I've done far better than any realistic expectations I could have had at those ages.

That reminds me of a comedian i once saw, throughout one of his show he would have meeting with his younger selves, i believe there were his current self, his 9 year old self, his 20, 30 and 40 year old self

Each with their own views and such

It was a pretty interesting take on life

Learn to play the piano, listening to one is a great pleasure now. Stay in the Air Force, there is nothing better on the outside. Be painfully honest with your parents, they will respect you for it. I have to give a big thumbs up to the guy that said " keep your pecker in your pants".

Buy one 4 gear 1971 HEMI Barracuda convertible. Take a 30-year nap. Wake up, sell it...RETIRE Better yet...buy 2...one to sell and one to drive during retirement!

1) The biggest thing for me is to buy a house when you're as young as possible. Twenty-five years ago when i was young and dumb, on a whim I decided to pay cash for a cheap house, not to live in, but just to store my cars and surfboard. I then moved out of state for twenty years. I never knew in a million years that the little house would save me and my wife in the future when times got tough and we had the little paid-off house to fall back to.
2) I wish my dad never taught me how to operate a wrench, then I'd have no choice but to only buy new cars instead of messing with cheap fixer-uppers all my life.
3) Don't talk about yourself to people. When conversing with someone, talk about him/her instead.
4) Learn to manipulate finances as a teenager, then you won't struggle with dollars for the rest of your life.

I knew you were a smart guy...but now I see I underestimated you, Mike. You are a full-blown Genius!
Jeff, I made so many mistakes all my life. It took many mistakes and resets on my life to make it a great one. An amazing woman isn't the cherry on top. She is the absolute GLUE to me. And.. she's as obsessed with muscle cars as I am. Im a blessed man that doesn't deserve it.

Listen to your father and get a good city job with a pension. It's nice to have letters after your name, but it's nicer to be able to retire before you're too old to enjoy it.

Yes, women will act "too good to be true" if you look like a good catch. That's not sexist, it's just true.
(Corollary: If she's fantastic, and everyone says you're a great couple, but there are just a few little things that don't click, marry her, don't dump her).

Wrap it. Every time. (I did this and I'm glad I did, but I would re-emphasize it, because of all the trouble I watched my friends go through).

agree with the house buying. "should have" bought the house that was on two lots. the front one was on one block with the house. the second lot had a new garage on it. only 20K in late 70's.

"Don't take any chit from anybody..." I still live by this and it really gets the moochers, freeloaders and credit stealers in a frazzle...you know the type of people who don't like the word "no...":thumbsup:

1) Don't Marry at 18 right out of High School .The only good was My 3 Sons but after 10 years I had a Mountain of debt I couldn't crawl out from under so I Divorced Her.

2) Marry my present Wife of 42 years sooner .

3) My Dad died in a work accident when I was 14 and My Mom turned to the bottle . As the oldest of 5 I had to make sure my Sisters had what they needed .When Mom died when I was 18 I continued to raise them. I made a lot of mistakes and would have told myself to ask for more help and advise which I was to stuborn to ask for .

For reference, I am considering a 5000 square feet lot, for $60k

And that is just grass, nothing else

Oh, I thought of another one:

You're a lot better looking than you think you are - Go for it! Ask that one if she wants to go for coffee / have a drink / leave the bar and talk.

I look at pictures when I was younger and thinner and actually looked good, and I think, Damn, I had fun, but I could have had a lot more fun than I had!

DON’T BUY THAT 1st PACK OF CIGARETTES! you’ll be much more successful with the ladies early on and you’ll be trying to quit until you’re 40!

Reminds me of something I learned WAY too late:

Go ahead and ask her, as the worse thing she can do is say “no”.
