they are for greasing the berings and changeing the dyelitheum crystals

Dang, a clear case of "unscheduled engine dis assembly"

They're just so you can quickly check to make sure the rotating assembly is holding together for the next run. Looks like everything is fine. Carry on.

They are speed holes. That is a rare and special cheater block. At the top end, the engine ejects some of the useless bits to give the car a quicker ET

That system was originally mandated in '68 on the 385ci Chrysler big blocks under the Cleaner Air Act, it's the PCV setup, or Permanent Crankcase Ventilation system, and is designed to keep unburned hydrocarbons from building up in the block.

The released hydrocarbons are trapped under the hood, diluted with the incoming air from the fan and then pulled back in through the carb and burned. This system also greatly reduces oil leaks at the gaskets and seals caused from blowby past the rings pressurizing the block internally as the engine ages.........

X2 :glasses7:

Time for a stroker...................

Yeah probably this winter, but in the meantime my buddy is getting the next one ready for it!! :headbang: I would be lost without him!!

Put a glass top on the old old block and use it as a coffee table.

Those "holes" actually look like that rare, maybe super rare, factory option that I have heard about. One school of thought was they were for those oil change "specialists" so they could easily do an oil change without overfilling - they could simply fill until it ran out the holes - makes an oil change much quicker as they don't have to measure anything. The other school said no - that those holes were for greasing the lower bearings.

I am not sure which of those I believe in, but I do think it is "super rare" and would bring a pretty good sum on ebay.
