What did I break? (pictures in post 26)

thanks for the input Dave

is there any way to check the sprag short of pulling the transmission out?

Nope.

That's why I asked you if it over revved, or seemed to spin up when you had your malfunction. IF, the driveshaft spun free when those gears broke, then it certainly would be a good thing to look at.

When something breaks like what you had happen the trans (specifically 727) can spin up 2 to 2 1/2 times the engine RPM, damaging it internally, or worse yet exploding it, sending shrapnel everywhere up to penetrating the floor/hump and into the interior.

904 would prevent that, OR rebuild and enhance the 727 trans.

so...I got the 8 3/4 installed on Monday
took the driveshaft in on Tuesday
and put it back together on Wednesday

with the new rear end in the car, it moves in forward, reverse and fries the tires (well, one at least)

I haven't had a chance to take her down the road, since the brakes still need to get bled

I didn't hear any strange noises from the tranny

so all is well that ends well?

(Bruce, before you mention it, ill try to take a lil video of those tires tomorrow)
