In the way of a dist and box. I've got a beefed up 318 and want to give it what it needs. Right now it has a stock 73 dist on it but the guy at the shop said can't adjust this type so i should get an MSD like is on my 440. It's a run/ready? Does that sound right? As you can tell i don't know a lot about this stuff so i won't act like it. If it needs something i just stand back and throw money at it. What will work and what do i need, Thanks guys.

A MoPar Performace distributor is all you need for most anything including racing. It has a adjustable vaccum advance via hex key in the post opening of the pot. (Where the vaccum advance hose hooks into. For giggles, see if yours has it.

The stock distributor can be re-curved if you wish for a small savings over a new MP unit. Send it to Don Gould @ 4secondsflat.com. Link below.
You do not ned to spend money on a MSD distributor. The 6 or 6-A box is a nice trigger and good for street duty to strip duty. However, in a race envioment, theres absoulty no gain over a MoPar Chrome box. Period.

Tell Don @ FBO that rumblefish360 sent you. Give him my best. He'll set you up right.

I agree 100%. Do NOT waste your money/time on the MSD distributor. It's overkill, and Don can dial in a stock MP elect distributor much better with his many many years of experience. I will be sending my MP distributor to him pretty shortly. Pickup his Coil/ECU/Distributor kit and he can recurve the distributor to your setup. VERY nice products, ive yet to hear a unhappy customer..

For comparison...

Distributor mentioned: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=DCC-3690430&N=700+115&autoview=sku $157.

ECU mentioned: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=DCC-4120534&N=700+115&autoview=sku $61
------------------------------
$218 for a out of the box brand new distributor, new ecu. not curved to your setup (spring kits availible, you can recurve it yourself by welding/adding weight and such.)

4secondsFlat/FBO mentioned. http://www.4secondsflat.com/a688specs.html $130

"What about warranty?

Or you can recurve the dist yourself. Buy the fast (lite weight) mechanical advance springs from mopar or other source- install one lite spring by replacing the heavier of the two stock springs, and voila you are pretty close by doing this. Fine tuning would involve testing the amount of mechanical vs vac advance. You change this by removing or adding metal from the ends of the mechanical advance "slots" and as mentioned above by changing the amount vacuum advance with an adjustable vac advance unit. A lot of folks dont use vac advance, and rely entirely on mechanical advance. Depends on how lumpy your motor is.

I may send just my MP distributor to Don. Depending on how my engine runs when I get it installed this winter, I may go with the Demon setup and ditch the 750 Holley. At the minimum get the $10 tuning book.
