What I did today for no reason

-
I mowed the lawn today...I could have done it tomorrow! I ended up cleaning the jet of the carb because the Fn thing would run for more than 3 seconds. Pulled the bowl and 1/2 teaspoon of black sludge was at the bottom of the bowl. cleaned that out along with the jet and put it back together (had to pull the air cleaner off) started it back up, ran for 5 minutes then died again. Pulled the jet again (this time I just pulled the bowl from under the air cleaner) and cleaned again with a little more crap in the bowl) and then it ran fine. I want to install a fuel filter but the carb feed hose is only 4 inches long and a straight shot from the tank. Maybe I can find a small 90 degree one, it really needs it as it doesn't get used all that often in the winter here.
Suspect the hose itself. I ran into this on an outboard last summer. EVERY time I tried to run it, it flooded / float / needle stuck. It was one of the short connecting hoses between the fuel hose connector and the pump/ carb
