I know it is probably more personal preference, but my car had a ton of undercoating that I removed and am close to repainting the underside.

Your thoughts please........

Paint it same color as exterior?

Paint it satin black?

Paint it Gray / Green and have some over spray of exterior color?

I'm confused, you want to know what's correct, or our opinions on what you should do? Correct, in this case is undercoating :-D, but you already knew that...lol.

I am asking for opinions and suggestions. I am not 100% set o which way to go. Painting the whole underside the exterior looks cool if you crawl under it. I have seen pics of the underside dark gray/green with the outside color overs prayed onto it.

I would like the popular choice.

I think body color is really good looking. It appears like the owner took more pride in doing his car and totally finished it, but most of those cars are trailer queens too.
It looks so cool when they put the mirrors under the car at the shows.

Personally I am going with undercoating for rust prevention and sound deadener.

Personally I've always liked the painted undercarriage as it seems the owner has taken more time with it. As pointed out, though, those cars are trailer queens, because road debris is going to wreack havoc with the paint. Personally, I like the undercoating for protection.

Paint it the same as your body colour. It will bring more money in when you sell if ever.I painted mine the same and love it as well as outhers.

Body color is correct. Your build sheet should tell if it had factory undercoating
or not. Back then most of the dealers undercoated also. I have known a few people lately that have had spray on bedliner installed. (seals great and is very tough. Some of the undercoat products today stay tacky and don't harden) toolmanmike

If your trying to make it look like factory it's nearly impossible, seen a bunch of attempts at it but it's hard to duplicate.

I will agree with the others that the body color underside looks real nice but it gets to be a pain to take care of if your car is daily driven. I don't know about increasing resale value other than it may give some buyers a feeling of a better quality resto as long is it was still looking sharp.

Undercoating like the factory is the easiest.

I have started seeing a number of cars done with Rhino Liner over POR 15. It's supposed to make it real quiet, easy to clean and looks similar to undercoating, I think they can do it in colors also. I guess the only drawback is it would be a bear to remove if you decided to do something different later.

Good luck which ever way you decide to go.

Ok then, body color it is. I will use wheelhouse coating made by Lord Fusor to protect the wheel house, it is tough and durable like Line-X..

Thanks FABO!

my opinion.... i think your wasting your money if you paint the bottom of the car the same color then then put under coating in your wheelwells!! paint everything the same color and leave it!!!!!!!!!

I agree, unless you are going to drive it everyday in bad weather for years, undercoating isn't nessecary. 99% of the cars in Small Blks field are all the same colo runderneath as on top. They are just warn more, I'm in for paint.
