What is it with some people..

When I am selling something, I check thread comments to see who asked first then I check DMs. If no DM's, I reach out to the member who posted the first interested comment. If there are DMs on the part, I check the time stamps to see if the DM came in before the comment or vise versa.

I'll take my steak well done but make that three orders.

I like this one. A felinephobe? Possible lol
Some people should have lawn sausage as their avatar.. because thats what they're 2 cents is worth!!
Well if that's the case, you don't need that negativity in your life. I tell Kitty all the time when someone says they don't like cats, it's time to drop um like a hot rock. lol

It's all about being a decent seller. A decent human being. Trustworthy, fair, level headed, you know the type. You can sell to who ever you want to but to be fair, the first guy that's interested should get first dibbs. Most sellers here consider the first PM (or now called DM) the first official offer. Your choice really. Just be fair about it. And, if you aren't a Gold Member,
KEEP YOUR DAMN INBOX CLEANED OUT.

My system is much aligned with the features here. I list something, the first PM I get on the item is the first person to have the option to buy it. The only confusing part is when someone posts in the thread but doesn’t PM, I get prompts when I get a PM, I don’t get prompts when someone posts in the thread. It happened just recently with me and @jeff alder, and I felt real bad about it. The problem with posting in the thread is also that the potential buyer doesn’t know if someone PM’d on the item first, before they post in the thread. It would make it much easier if interested parties posted in the thread that they sent a PM, and also sent a PM.
What I find is PMs get mixed up really easily, different headings etc. And once read or replied to the PM is no longer in date time received order. The AD on the other hand has a strict chronology if I post about a part, even 1 second before another, I'm first in the line of posts. BUT I HAVE TO FOLLOW THROUGH WITH A PM in a reasonable amount of time!!!!! IIRC edits to a post show an Edited date and time BUT the chronology is maintained so that is a potential issue. Perhaps the site owner could prevent edits from posts in sale ADs

Many times the shipping is a deal killer and that is understandable. No one really knows how much something is to ship with out packaging and an address. I use GoShippo.com and when I only get a zip code I look up a random address in the zip code to use for a shipping estimate. Most of the time the price stays the same but sometimes it changes with the real address. Also Shippo shows me several carriers prices for the same package and I can choose the cheapest or quickest.

I for one would never be upset with someone for backing out based on shipping costs. Also I would NEVER back out of a sale because someone else offered me more or was closer or would pick it up.

Someone brought up paid vs free membership. Free membership generates ad revenue to the site owner where the paid membership does not. So my paid membership is paying that missing ad revenue, it all comes out in the wash.

I have had nothing but great buying and selling experiences here (a couple less than stellar packaging issues - So I don't buy from those sellers anymore, I keep a list on my PC)

MY LAST point is if you have an item for sale and you post an AD, for the love of all that is Mopar, clear out your Inbox!!!!!!

hell there's even a person on here that buys all of them up it seems like when it comes to the steering wheel. ..hell, one month that same person/fam bought two of them that I saw.
"If your not first your last!" (Ricky Bobby's Daddy)

I have a 67 Dart GT Convert and I have several of many GT or Convert specific parts. When I see them for sale for a reasonable price I buy them, even if I don't need them BECAUSE.... someday I might and if I don't get it now I MIGHT not be able to get it later.

I'm sure there are guys here who buy parts to resell and make a profit on it. Unfortunately that causes parts prices to go up but that's life. Every time an A body sells for stupid money at auction prices go up.

Here are a few things that seem weird to me.
* People that use pictures of women as their avatars when they are actually men. That just seems creepy.
* The people that don't list an address of any kind.
* The address is vague like "Mountain Dweller" or something unspecific.
* People that advertise things for sale while not being a GOLD member. Hey, regular membership limits you to a really stingy 15 PMs. Selling things is going to fill up your inbox fast and to handle it, you need more storage. PLUS, if you're making money by using the site, you should share the wealth a bit. Remember the newspaper classified ads? Those weren't free, right? Step up and pay up.
wow, I`ve never made money on anything I`ve sold on here !
BUT , since shipping went out of site (rape!) , I haven't sold anything ...

  1. They are showing their appreciation for the fairer sex (I have a red headed trool, doesn't mean I'm a trool, although I was called that ones so that's why I changed my avatar)
  2. I list "Northern Colorado" It is not a good practice to post your exact or even zip code location in an open forum, people can figure out where your car resides too easily.
  3. I have to agree that a state would be a minimum nice to have (But what does it really prove, I can type anything)

On a related note, buyers and sellers should provide feedback for their purchasing/selling experience.

Over rated IMHO, I have yet to look at a members rating. I get to know you by your posts and past experiences

Check your settings ( and you have to post in a thread to get notifications that someone else posted in the thread UNLESS it's your thread you started.

click on your Avatar upper right
then on "Account Details" and "Preferences"

then check the notifications you want and click on "Additional Prefrences" at the bottom

For an avatar, a cartoon character, a picture of a car, even a race car number is sensible. Using a picture of a good looking woman when you are a man gives off a creepy and deceptive vibe.

Unfortunately, I think the private market has devolved to the point where it's almost expected for either the buyer or seller to be flaky or immoral. It's a bummer for those of us who are old school and still think a man's (or woman's) word really means something, because that results in much disappointment. I've been disappointed here a few times, but it is what it is.

I understand your point, but trust me, nobody wants my jalopies. So, I don't care if anyone knows where I live. It would actually be easier if they saw my car in a parking lot and looked up my plate because then, they'd have my actual address. Just knowing someone's zip or city is incredibly broad and to find out where they live would take a LOT of effort.

Selling on the internet there's a ton of flakes. That's why I wanted to know if the OP really didn't contact the seller for over 24 hours after the seller posted the price. Because having someone ask for the price and then disappear is not at all unusual. If someone said "I want it, how much" and then didn't respond after I posted the price, well, there's a time limit on that. I'm not gonna hold the part for days on end just to see if that first person gets back to me if I have other buyers.

I don't think it's entirely on the seller to hold the buyers hand and walk them through the buying process. If someone asks me "how much" and I reply with the price and don't hear back, I'd send that person 1 message. That's it. If you haven't contacted me again in 24 hours I'm moving on. It would be nice if people always replied something like "thanks for getting back to me, that's more than I want to spend", but in many cases people just ghost you. So if the first person to call "dibs" just disappears for a day or two it can totally kill the sale, the seller could lose several buyers in that time and that first person may never follow through.

It sucks, I agree, because if you want to buy something on here you have to move really fast sometimes. Especially if it's a desirable item. But if you really want something you have to be prepared to at least remain in contact with the seller until you complete the sale.

Depends on the city and zip code. If you live in a city or zip code with a hundred thousand people, yeah, not giving away much. If you live in a zip code or city with only a few thousand people, well, might not be all that hard to find out where they live from there.
