What would be a fair price for a complete 8 3/4 for an A body with a sure grip, and brakes, out of a running car?

About 575, more if it has 3.55 Sg (or better) in a 742 or 489. Is it a cone or clutch (more for clutch type).

Seen them go from $500 for a pitted nasty looking one to $900 for a really clean unit.

axels alone are 0ver 200 plus bearings..studs,seals,400 for a posi, couple hundred for gears and a 150 to 200 for a housing...plus drums/brakes/wheel cylinders...575 is way too low

Prices vary a lot depending on where you live. Around here, it would be $600-$800, depending on condition. Usually closer to the $600.

Damn. I should sell some of my axles if they bring $200. I usually see $75 for axles, $250 for a sure grip carrier. The most valuable part is the housing.

Not really I paid 450 for mine and it's a sure grip. Currently there is a guy selling a complete unit for 575 with sure grip (locally). Just must be you don't have any in your area so you'll pay higher for one.
Around my area most go for 600 or less no more then 650 (about 50/50 have the bbp though).

$600-1000 for one here in SoCal depending on which gear, case, and sure grip it has.
