Its time to buy a ignition for my 408 stroker and I am not sure what to get. I would like to have a complete msd setup but im not sure what to pick out. The car is going to be street/strip, no nitrous or any power adders, and i want a rev limiter. All info is appreciated , thanks!

My Mallory 6AL systems have been great so far 4 years strong. My MSD 6AL pooped in 2 years.

Funny that. My Mallory took a chit after 3 month's...

msd 7

I ran the 6 box for many years but had no rev limiter. So when I brought new again I went with the msd 7 al which back then was only $120 more then the msd 6 al

Got a new hvc coil as well, noticed a stronger cold idle right from the start. The plugs do wear out sooner, like I had 3,000 miles on them and replaced them, the gap which was around .035 was around .055 but all plugs were still clean

Get the best wires, the more power, the easier it find a leak

Now sure, basic points will get it running

What sort of plugs were you using? Seems to me there are more durable plugs on the market that wont break down as fast. Irridium should hold up better under a multiple spark system.

I run an Accel 300+ Box with a 375+ Digital Controller.

I got mine as a package (new, 300+ and 375+) on ebay for $230 or so, Only really needed the 375 for the Boost Timing Retard, but I can't complain about getting a bunch of other features too.

Prior to that I just had the 300+, which that ignition box (my other 300+) is now going on my friend's Supercharged 318 powered Mazda RX-7

NGK race plugs, $2.69 each at Summit, put in new plugs each season, no biggie. Msd claims the cheap copper plugs are the best for its ignitions

Only drawback I had was once a header burnt a plug boot and once the engine was hot, it had a misfire under heavy load. The wires were pretty new so I thought they were OK, I put the 6 box back on and engine ran fine, no misfire at all.

Sent the 7 al box back to msd, comes back 3 1/2 weeks later, no problems found. Put 7 al box back on and yep, the hot engine misfire came back, I was pissed.

Called MSD and yelled how come you didn't fix my box, lol Msd tech got me to clam down and I explain what is going on. Tech goes explaining the 7 al box is much stronger and will find a short to ground easier then the 6 box, and to pull each wire off and look carefully for any cracks. Sure enough I found the crack plug boot. Some black electric tape took care of the leak.

So if your wires aren't the best--right now I have new Champion Powerboosters from some racing shop on Ebay, Nascar plug wires or your dist is stock, the 6 box will keep you out of problems. But if everything is top notch, the msd 7 box is what to get, IMO

Wires I found were brand new for $60 but here is a used set, they fit my small block just find but the numbers were all mixed up, a sharp razor took them right off http://www.ebay.com/itm/NASCAR-Cham...pt=Race_Car_Parts&vxp=mtr&hash=item19cfe1adee

This is the seller I used a few times and got my brand new wires from, great guys, these wires look sweet and likely will fit the small block mopars http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-NASCAR-...Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item53ec80f01c
