Does anyone know the difference? I've searched high and low...

42RH AKA A-500 AKA 904 based O/D trans
4 forward gears
2 duty rating
R rear drive
H Hydraulic valve body (control)

Never heard of a 44RH

46RH AKA A-518 AKA 727 bases O/D trans

I haven't heard of a 44rh either but as baccaruda pointed out the 2nd # stands for the duty rating so if it exists it must be a beefy version of the 42rh. Or maybe it's the Jeep version of a 42rh and they rate the duty differently? Just a thought.

maybe a 998/999 based OD? But they were 904 based...dunno.

OK, I'll play. What's a duty rating? Maybe a 44RH is for a 4wd? Just call me clueless in Costa Mesa......

It is a 904 based OD trans. 42rh is 904 based. 46 rh is 727 based. They are also known as A500 and A518's.

The torque handling capacity. The higher the 2nd number the more power it'll handle.
