What is the "trick" on 727/ 518 (46RE) dust shields??? rubbing/ noise

Got the White Whale III fired up on the hoist, checking levels, adding fluid, oil, etc, and "the dreaded rubbing sound." This MIGHT be the same dust shield I tried to install on the White Whale I (which lives without one) and had it off two or three times before I left it off. What are the popular tricks to bend, flatten, trim, ?? to fix these?

Hell I don't even know WHERE it's rubbing!!!

spray some old paint on it and put it back on to find out where it's rubbing and fix that ?

Found it. Removed the cover, and there's a tiny rub mark up next to the crank where the small "half moon" is cut out in the dust cover. I'll trim/ grind a bit off and reinstall
