I have a 1973 Dart Custom, 225 /6 automatic. This little silver thing located under the dash on the passenger side gets hot, even with the car off and even when the key is NOT in the ignition switch. I have disconnected the battery until I figure out what is going on. Looked at the wiring diagrams over on MyMopar and I still have no clue.

it is aluminum and about the size of a condenser. But even if it is a condenser, what is its purpose being under the dash?

Your car is probably equipped with ignition switch light and a couple of others that remain lit for a little bit after opening door. I’m thinking that is a time delay relay. Look under your wiring diagrams and it’s probably under optional lighting. That’s my guess. And yes from what I recall they do get a bit toasty. Usually they are closer to the steering column.

Get your big wallet out .. I found one on e-bay and decided I didn't need an ignition lite.. flashlite is alot cheaper...
