what is this?

Could someone help me figure out what this is? It goes in the middle of a heater hose and has a vacuum line attached to it. (I'm replacing the cooling system and all hoses) Thanks!

It's the heater control valve..... The vacuum hose goes to the controls in the dash to regulate the amount of heated water going into the heater core....

Thanks! That's what I was thinking but it doesn't look like the ones I've seen for sale.

I had a similar issue with my 73 Dart. I ended up buying a generic and fabricating a bracket to mount it in the same location. If you go this route, ask whoever you're buying it from what is the direction of flow. Mine wasn't marked and it took a while to figure out. If you get it wrong, coolant pressure will force it open eliminating the need for the valve.
