What is your preferred cut/buff compound for smoothing out orange peel?

@MobileCustoms What kind of pad would you recommend to use with the CSI you posted above? There were red and blue pads listed in the link. I would be using it on clear, plus I am just learning how to paint/polish. Thanks!

I just shoot single stage, figure orange peel is a 'lost art", why change!!???
At least there will be no clear to feel off later!
OK, sorry as usual, I am no help!!!

I still have a bunch of my old wool pads and was surprised how well they worked with that compound. I also have some of the recommended foam pads that work great.

I hear technology has changed with polishes. I just spent the morning finishing the wet sanding and tried out some Meguiar's 105 on a cloth by hand. I'm very impressed. It brought shine to areas done in 3000 (by hand) right away.

Ha! funny I just told friend "you can buy single stage but base clear is sate of the art..." :)
I shot my first bc/cc about 1988 or9? AAR Cuda. All done, I had a looker drive from S.D./ to me ion Mo. in his fancy roll back truck. Only thing that was NOT new or rebuilt was the originally (really nice) bumpers but I had shot it ion that NEW (bc/cc) stuff. He drove it, looked it over from adds apple to a**hole, and could find nothing wrong, but said it just did not suit him, and could not say why.
I told him, he would probably live it if it was not so darn shiny!!!
Back then, a high $ restos were shot like the factory in single stage! Go figure! :BangHead: Not that I was any kind of high $ little shop/.

My friend has a 68 Impala convertible I'm trying to convince him to paint it as everything is good except his "rat rod" paint job. I just bought a gallon of 2 stage base along with the clear told him the price(over $500) he said "Ouch" I said "you could single stage it...or at least get it in primer..." were getting old he's ready to retire I think the $$ may be the issue but I told him "you DA 1 side I do the other and we shoot it..." it would probably be less than 500 for single stageand, its a vert its less paint because of no roof..:)

He could save a buck if he uses single stage instead of base, and then applies the clear over that. But not that much anyway.
The higher quality the clear the more the $ for sure.

I spent many years in the autobody industry and always swore by 3M Products, including their compounds.
That is, until a friend who's still in that profession turned me on to this stuff. It totally blows away anything I've ever used and I've used a bazillion different brands.
It cuts so fat you won't believe it, yet it also polishes/finishes out with a gloss so good you won't believe it.
Skip the others and go straight to this. I promise you will thank me!
