I have been looking at radiator fans. There seems to be four choices.
1. stock
2. flex
3. viscious
4. electric

Which one would you use in a 400+ HP situation where you would be doing mostly street cruising and why?

I'm not making 400h.p. but i have always used stock fans with no problems.

I'm not sure if it's true but i heard flex fans flatten out at high RPM's and stops pulling air threw the radiator.

Flex fans do flatten out at high rpm but by the time you get the rpm's up (unless your revving it in neutral) your going fast enough that the fan isn't really needed. For this reason flex fans save a little HP.

Electric fans may not have any drag on the engine but unless you pick one carefully you could get one that pulls lots of amperes so that will cause the alternator to drag more so you've kinda defeated the purpose of less drag from the fan. If you go with electric choose the one that moves the most cfm of air pulling the least ammount of amperes.

Chrysler claim the viscious gives the best HP but a friend of mine had 2 of them come apart (both brand new from Mopar performance) and go through the radiator so I'm kinda affraid of them.

Remember the more blades the more air it will move and which ever you decide to go with get a good quality one. Not a yingayang made in China type.

Two guys I know with over 400 horsepower in theie a-bodies run electric. I do know there was some trouble finding one that actually cooled the car AND fit at the same time. Before, the one guy had a stock fan on his 383.

I am running a stock fan on my 400+ HP motor with no problems!

i have a Mr gasket electrick fan and it works good for me not sure if it is the best one..
had a stock fan befor it and it workt great as long as there was a fan shroud around it, changed to an electrick one because it looks lots cleaner and its a pain in the *** to find anything that looks like a fanshroud that fits a F**d scorpio radiator in a 73 abody..
