I wanted to know what size tire I could use on a 68 Barracuda fastback. I am running in the rear a 245/60r14 and in the front a 195/70r14. I dont want to use a 245 in the rear because it is hard to find and expensive. What other size would fit in it and look good?

Are sticking with 14s ? I ran 275-60-15s on the back of my 69. I doudt they will be cheaper then a 245-60-14 though.

If you want to stay with a 14" around the same height a 215-70-14 is about your only option. Lots of price options in this size from $50-$100.

The 195-70-14s on the front are a little shorter than stock.

Hate to say it but your options are very limited and you are looking at moving toward a stock size tire if you want to have low cost, wide selection and stay with 14s.

A 205-70-14 is another option (a bit shorter) again... Lots to choose from in this size with prices as low a $50.

I dont want to stay with 14's but cant afford to buy new wheels now that is why I want cheap tires so when I finaly buy new wheels I didnt waste a bunch of money on the old tires.

215-70-14s all the way around then. Should be able to get them for around $200-$250 for a set of 4 + mount and balance.

Should look good and ride nice too.

Now you are going in a circle. Your question asked for an available, inexpensive alternative to your 245-60-14s while staying with 14" wheels.

The "Profile" should be about the same, both tires are about the same height as what you have and would be on the same wheel.

If you went 215-70-14s all the way around the fronts would be just a little taller (more side wall showing) but wider. The rears would show about the same amount of side-wall but be narrower.

The tires would look close to the same size as the ones on my car.... Mine are re-pop E70-14s. The stock tire for a 68 Formula S.

You can see them in this thread.

Like I said...... Your options are limited.

a 225-70-14 should be the same height as the 245-60-14 but not as wide and maybe a bit cheaper.

Are you wanting it to look something like this?

I looked at those.

The 245-60-14s come up as 25.57" tall
The 225-70-14s come up as 26.4" tall.

(Web page #s will differ a bit)

The 225-70-14s may be an option for the rear (may cause tire to fender interference on the front).

I didn't list them because they only average about $10 a tire less than the 245-60-14s.

I think he just wants an inexpensive, easy to find alternative to his 245s until he can buy wheels and tires.

Thats why I listed the ones I did. They can be had in the $50-$60 range and most places should have them.

Mulliniax95 is where I want to be in the long run but for now you are right I just need cheap untill I can afford to buy new wheels and tires.

As for going in circles I just was hoping to keep the wider tire but your right I need to let go and look at the price. I also found 235/60r14 and thats sort of cheap but yours are better. Thanks.

I just put a set of 4 new cooper tires on my car for 147.00 out the door. 195/75r14 Fit the stock rallys perfect. They are skinny, but good tires and CHEAP! I will be going to BBP and 17's in the future,so I just went the cheapest route I could.

Just for a frame of reference here is my car with 235/60-14's all the way around.

Now here it is with 215/60-15's on the front and 255/60-15's on the back.
