'74 Dart, 225 /6, A904 tranny. The fittings for the cooling lines to the radiator. The male end that screws into the radiator. Anybody tell me the thread/pitch? I have to buy new fittings. Thanks to all!

You don't need to know the actual thread. These are "called out" by the fitting type and line size. They would be either 5/16 inverted flare or 5/16 SAE flare.

That is for the line fittings

I think the adapters going into the radiator are 1/4" pipe thread.

This is sometimes called a "half union" or "flare adapter"

So if your lines have female nuts, you would want "5/16 SAE flare X 1/4 pipe"

I could be wrong, it might be 1/8 pipe

1/8 pipe is nominally 3/8" OD

1/4" pipe is more like 1/2" OD

Thanks for that info but it's not a 1/4" NPT thread. Bought a couple of those and not even close. These threads are much finer and slightly smaller diameter.

I think you may be right. I'm going to hit NAPA tomorrow and see if they have them. Thanks!

Be sure you get "SAE flare" which in the aftermarket is nearly always brass

Most aftermarket steel you will run into are JIC otherwise known as AN. JIC / AN in 3/8 (no 6) is a different thread size and won't fit the flare nuts

I should say, what's wrong with your old ones?

I would try something "like this." Cut off the tubes if necessary. Use a deep socket or box end on both ends. DO NOT use a vise or open end wrenches. Sometimes, if you put the nuts end in a vise, it will deform the thing "just enough" to actually "tighten" it on the threads.

At the risk of starting another heated debate, the lines are broken now, and I'm going to rig them back up with hoses. Need to get hose barbs for the radiator and compression fitting to hose barb for the lines. Thanks for all the help guys!

Why not just get (4) 1/8 pipe thread to hose barb adapters then? Radiator cooler and transmission should all have the same size pipe threads in them.

Had two 10" hoses made. 1/8" NPT to 1/4" flare adapters for the radiator. 5/16" compression to 1/8" NPT fittings for the lines. Hose are 1/4" 3000 psi hydraulic hose (it's all they had) with 1/4" flare female swivel on one end and 1/8" NPT female fixed on the other. Total cost = $50. I know I could have gotten new lines for that much but I got this within 5 miles of where I work and waited while they made the hoses. Besides, with my luck something would've screwed up taking the lines loose at the transmission.

Thanks 69_340_GTS! Worked great. Used a mini tubing cutter and cut the driver side line behind the p/s pump and the passenger side line in front of the crossmember at the radiator support brace. I was able to install the compression fittings with a back up wrench and a ratchet with a deep wall socket. Screwed the hose to the compression fitting and snugged it. Then put the 1/8" NPT to 1/4" flare fitting in the radiator. Screwed the swivel end of the hose to the flare fitting and snugged it. Took for a 30 minute test drive and no leaks yet. Here's the hoses. Had them made at a Parker Hose Store near work.
