Summer is finally here, so it's time to get rolling on that restoration project you've always wanted to start! Perfect timing, because I'm offering up my project car, a modified 1972 MGB Roadster. I had plans to do an extensive restoration and upgrade the engine, transmission, and suspension, then use it as a street/track car, but a new project has come my way and I would like to pass this one on.

The good:
-The car has had countless hours of bodywork done to widen the front and rear fenders
-Custom running boards to join the flares together
-The front bumper and grille area are also one-off
-All bodywork is STEEL, no crappy fiberglass or plastic
-Aforementioned bodywork makes this a truly unique, one-of-a-kind car that will be stunning after a restoration
-Bright red paint shines up very nicely
-Engine is free and turns over
-Runs if you pour gas into the carb
-Vintage Cobra alloy wheels
-Vintage luggage rack on trunk lid

The bad:
-Car has been sitting for several years now
-Does not run
-Top is trashed (I do have a tonneau-style top for it that needs new zippers that will be included with the sale)
-Interior is pretty well shot from rain damage/sitting
-Brake system needs to be gone through
-Fuel system needs to be gone through, as gas does not get to the carb
-Transmission/clutch are frozen, will need rebuild or replacement
-Front floor footwells are rusted, will need to be patched/replaced
-Trunk lid is dented
-Will need a respray when you finish everything

I bought the car two years ago, but the individual/shop that initially did the bodywork is unknown.
The car is currently in storage in Georgia, VT, where it can stay with a deposit, or come pick it up and haul it away now. Car will be sold with bill-of-sale only, I do not hold a title, as it is unnecessary for a car so old.

I've spent way too much money just storing this for the past two years, and I likely won't ever have a chance to really work on it. It's time to cut my losses, I just hope someone else can make use of it so it doesn't have to go to scrap. Has a massive amount of potential for this price range. I'm just sick of paying for storage on a project I'll likely never get around to starting. As always, CASH TALKS, I'm willing to make a deal.

I think your sale would work better at the site above.

I agree with you that you should resell that money pit as fast as possible and take the profit or loss and run.

I think youre mis-understanding .... Im buying it , that was the sellers description

Easy..you could shoehorn the old aluminum block VS that British Leyland starting installing in '74 or 75. I gather it is lighter than the old cast iron 4 and a heck more powerful. I would beef up the brakes but the rest of the drive line should be ok..

I do know this swap works *really* well... I was going to do the same but my accident happened..

Actually, Costello was doing this swap before BL started to do it..

You should not find it difficult to find a web site that can help..

Ahh...to be young again and be able to take on more than 1 project at a time.I am struggling with one. I would leave the stock engine in it and maybe look for a dual weber sidedraft setup for it or something along that line.

My first inclination would be to sell it. It's not that I don't like English cars, I just have experience with them. There have been several MGs go through my family over the years (as well as Jaguar, Austin Healey, Triumph, Rover, Sunbeam), and other than my brother's MGC GT (six cylinder Healey engine), I wouldn't take one of them back. Well, not quite true, The Austin Healey and E-Type Jag were fantastic and I would give my left nut for the Jaguar. But the truth is that they all cost a ton to maintain and fix. I hope you have a good understanding of Lucas electrical systems. They are a nightmare! If not, find someone who does because they will drive you insane.

That said, If you intend to have this as a project, I would go the 2.4L Turbo SRT engine route. Cheap and fast. If you go to the Turbo Dodge website, there is a whole section on RWD conversions. I think there is a guy there putting one in a MG Midget. Check it out. Maybe an independent rear suspension from a Miata with the Monster Motorsport 8.8" ford upgrade would be cool.

BINGO! Vermont only requires a title for cars 15 years and newer,

Something I have been wondering....how would a person transfer ownership of a vehicle with a bill of sale when the state they reside in does not honor them?

Get it titled in a state that DOES accept the bill of sale then take that title to your DMV and get it transferred into your state. It's sort of a hassle but that's how I'm gonna have to do with my Duster.
