Made a trade, and my part shows up all f*#* up. I call the guy up, he says that it's UPS fault, call them. This guy doesn't want to do anything about it. He packed it like ****, just some balled up paper in a box with the carb. Anyway the thing is messed up and I don't know if it was from the shipping or if it was messed up before it was sent out. So, any suggestions on what I should do now?

Treva said you my have to file a claim with your shipper.
Fed-ex automatic 100 dolor ins your return.
Lets take a peek at the box and part broken.

Don't dally around you have a limited amount of time to file a claim. Also, if the guy that shipped to you didn't value the parts at what you paid you will only get the declared value. I learned that one the hard way when I shipped a piece of test gear back from a lab via FEDEX and they lost it. The declared value on the shipment was $100 and the test equipment was worth about $5k. I got a check from FEDEX for $100.

They will send some one out to take a look at the parts and the packaging, take pictures and such. It may take months to get a final ruling from the shipper.

trading parts via mail can be a little nerve wracking. I've done it a couple of times and everything worked out, but..... you've seen what can happen. Did you see a picture of the carb before shipping, I hope? You must contact the shipper asap. They don't give you much time to file a claim.

If I'm not mistaken you can't file the claim with UPS. That has to be done by the sender. At my UPS center when I ship something they always ask if it is double boxed. If not your chances of getting paid for damage are zilch. If he didn't pack it good it's his fault it got damaged, not UPS. By your description it sounds like he's a jerk that only looks out for himself. A couple other boards I visit have a feedback forum for problems like this. Maybe one here wouldn't be such a bad idea.

Yeah, when I've had broken stuff, I had to have the sender file the claim. If he does and UPS determines that it wasn't packed correctly, you're SOL.

I had a guy ship me a stroker crank in a box with NO packing at all not too long ago. The box was almost detroyed. It had holes all over it. Lucky the crank survived, but can you imagine what someone must be thinking to ship something like that.

When I ship something, I basically expect it to be manhandled badly on it's trip, and pack it accordingly. Sorry to hear things are going crappy. Where does this guy live?

It's like eBay in some aspects. The people are just trying to make free money hawking junk. I don't buy much of anything more than a few dollars worth sight unseen without a written confirmation of it's condition and some reassurance of a return/refund policy online anymore.

71produster, yes, the seller will have to file the claim. The only time they will talk to you is to get your side of the story but they will not let you know the outcome. Only the seller will be told. It sounds like the seller does not want to get involved so take that with a grain of salt. Hopefully, he is willing to work with you on this.

Usually, UPS will want to pick up the boxing and the item to inspect it. They will, as an option, do this via email. They will send you a form that requires at least six pictures be emailed back to them (including: the damaged item, the damaged item place in the box, all packaging materials, the shipping label, the UPC(?) code which shows the box's capacity and burst rate and two photos showing the top, bottom and all sides of the box). Believe me, it was a PITA but I just went through it.

If you ned any additional info, let me know.

If seems you would have to pay extra for insurance to me. Ive been in that same position also with door panels from ebay only I had the opportunity to return them for another $47 bux shipping.well $94 in shipping was more than I paid for them. I have an opinion but it would be biased if you didnt know this person personally as a friend, sorry to hear that. worlds changing.........

I bought a carb once from someone who didn't put any packing in the box. By the time it got here one of the vent tubes was broke off. The casting itself was broke. I had no luck with the sender also. So I purchased a new main body from Sumitt to fix it. Sorry to hear of your trouble. Jeff
