I removed the battery tray from 71 Abody, it had some battery acid corrosion in the paint. Luckily no rot or damage to the tray. Ive sanded to bare metal and will repaint it with some single stage lacquer, but I do not know what type of primer to use. Any suggestions?

Lacquer primer, if they still make it.

Adam, if your down to bare metal i would suggest useing a direct to metal primer. if you have access to a spray gun and compressor i would spray it with epoxy and then i think you would be able to spray your lacquer over it. You can top coat the epoxy with in the 48 hr window or you would have to sand the epoxy after the 48 hr to get good adhesion. I hope this helps..Rich

Can you still get lacquer? I haven’t looked in a long time but was under the impression that lacquer paint was not available anymore.

I got a gallon of Lacquer thinner for clean-up last Friday at my auto paint store.
Doesn't mean they had lacquer, but maybe an indication .

I have spi gray epoxy primer, looks like it'll be a safe bet
