What's this for..?

Had to purchase a different ball stud bracket... my new bracket is a bit different than the factory one... Anyone know what this part of the bracket with the hole is for..? My new one doesn't have it..

Cut it off and you have this 1972 - up bracket.

Standard aftermarket carb linkage hole that supports numerous types of adaptors.
