No damn notch. Only on this one shell, all the rest were fine.

Manufacturing error. Return for a bearing or bearing set with tangs.

Yes, maybe it's a local thing, but tang is what we would call it here. Was just saying that I had never heard it referred to a a notch.

Notch in the block or con rod and the matching caps. Tangs on the bearings to locate the bearing in the bore.
I use a fine file to just "deburr" the side opposite the notches to prevent that sharp corner shaving a bit off the back of the bearing. Put the tang in the notch and then push the bearing into place.

Yes the bearing is missing the do-hickey that locates / locks the bearing in place. Weird that an engine builder would have actually used it.
