When good is not enough, Camshaft time again.

Here’s a dyno sheet from a build similar to Kent’s.
505, 240’s, Victor, hp1000, 2” headers, solid cam that was like 250/254-108.
It’s not a build I had anything to do with, but I snagged a pic of the dyno sheet(I think from this site).
Owner was expecting waaaay more, but alas iiwii.

why not degree the cam correctly and make few pull? Or put it on a chassis Dino.

Ken recommend an 1146 for my 4” stroke small block for compression.
He degreed the cam already. And it ran 11.4x at 118mph.

Yes, id be very offended by those numbers myself especially if I paid for it.

We had a similar 493 on the dyno a few years ago.
TF240’s, Torker II, big carb, 1-7/8 headers, XS282S cam…….made about the same HP/ci as that 505.

I had an RPM headed 505 that did quite a bit better(imo) than either of those.
But, it was a bit over 11:1, and used a 112lsa version of the xs290s cam(252/260), dyno headers……. And a 6bbl.

Makes sense yes. And it points to your converter not really being a problem. How accurate are your inputs? You crossed the stripe right at 6000?
The datalog says 6000 maybe 5970. just checked it again. Highest was 6076 for the run

Small changes in inputs make a big difference in slip. That’s why I asked. 5-8% is generally acceptable.

At what ET do the roll bar police come calling at that track?
They did not came when we did 11.46. That was a one time. Usually the 11.49 is the cutoff. If I do go faster, I will get roll cage/bar. Might just do that anyway so I can have a proper harness.

Spokane had a history of being lax, but I haven't ran there since the 2004.
The track had allot to be desired the past 20 years, very poor management and a good ole boys system.

Do you know what diameter the converter is?

The reason I ask is, 9% slip wouldn’t be terrible from a 4500 flash stall 9-9.5” unit.
But a 10” piece that flashes 4500 is a bit of a red flag on its own, and slipping that much in a mid-11 combo isn’t giving me the warm n fuzzies.

It is a Hughes 24-30hd. Stated stall is 3000, but as mentioned AndyF looked at the datalog and said it was 4500. It is a 10 in converter. I have considered changing it prior and will do so if recommended.

a trip to EPC racing in Spokane might be the ticket your car needs before you start throwing more money at it.
They did wonders with my buddies 512 Charger, the 4spd made tuning finicky.
