About 20 min of googling and it seems there's about a 50/50 split on what "3rd member" means.

Let me ask this- an 8 1/4 axle doesn't have a 3rd member?
It sure does have a differential.
Shouldn't my esteemed porsche mechanic friend in the 1980's have known the cars he worked on didn't even have 3rd members?
