hey, i need a set of 4 shackle bolts for a 8.75. these are the u bolts that hold rear to the springs. anyone got a used set for sale? needed asap. or where to buy new ones? need the nuts too!

well, i kinda want 8.75 specific ones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!lol

Any spring shop can make you a set for about 25 bux. No such thing as 8 3/4 specific U bolts unless you want factory parts. They are just 3 in. U bolts.

That is why I said Tractor Supply they have a wide variety of U bolts

It was a suggestion 340. A spring shop might be stronger

ah, maybe ill just find a good used set out of a duster

Mopar Performance had them and they were reasonably priced.

Tractors aren't really made for 100K street miles at 80+ mph with kids in the back seat...in my opinion.

Tractor Supply is a Farm store from feed, clothing tools and hardware

Mancini's has them real reasonable, and the shock plates too if ya need them.
Slid right in with no issues on my 8.75.

I was going to say Tractor Supply, or Northern Tool. Northern Tool has a whole section for folks who build and service their own trailers... all sorts of sizes, and I think they are around $10 per set. I would think that trailers get a good work out and the material is probably more than adequate for an automobile.

Go to www.northerntool.com and search 'U bolt'

Go to a place that sells utility trailers or parts. Tractor Supply Company fits that catagory. You can waste money and pay shipping if you want to and still get the same quality part.

Never use used U-bolts. They stretch when torqued properly and are not meant to be re-used. :)

I'm sure someone will say that have used bolts on their 10 sec a-body with a 1000 passes, but don't do it.

I have been reusing u-bolts for many years on several aplications. Stretch bolts? I don't think so. Every bolt including wheel studs should be repaced if this is correct. Factory u-bolts are Pressed bent. Spring shops are common bent. Factory are alot stronger if you can find a clean set. Good You bolts are roughly $50.00 with hardened washers and nuts. Do not use common hardware store grade 8 nuts. They are to weak and to short. That is where your failure will happen. also use a molly lube

Once again, never reuse U bolts:

Really..."They are to weak and to short." Is that why the trailer I used to have had tandem dual wheels on dual axles with 8 leaf springs that we used it to haul a Case 580 extend-a-hoe with a cab that was fully dressed and a U bolt never gave any problems?

If I was selling a new product I to would also promote there use. If they torque and retorque to spec where is the issue. 56 and my own shop speaking from experience. Been doing this for years.

Some of these mail order parts are mass produced in china. I have seen worn US parts last longer then new chinese. If I was to replace mine I would not mail order them. I would have them made up at a local spring shop.

I do use Stengel Bros. for all 4x4 lifts or if they have to be cut. John at stengal bros. Sumner Ave Allentown did a set of springs for us They used the same u-bolts three times when replacing the springs to get the correct ride height. Now if you were to take it there the first time you will be charged for new u-bolts because they cut them off so they can sell you a set. Cost effective. But see if they put new bolts back on if they have to correct your springs. No they don't. They used the u- bolts they installed the first time three times in a row. Stood there and watched. There comments are just a ploy to promote sales. Believe what you want.

You guys are arguing about nothing. Just get some new good quality fine thread ones. Or good used ones if in fact they are perfect without any flaws or bad threads.
I would get the ones from Mancini's if it were me and be done with it.

How much axle wrap did that trailer have on accelleration

First you want us to follow the instuctions of the Pros. and replace the u-bolts and nuts to their spec. Then you contradict yourself and say we should use Home depot grade 8 nuts. I haul my case alot. My axle sits under my springs on one trailer and there is no stress on the u-bolts at all. My other trailers have torsion axkes. no u-bolts.

All I was doing was trying to Help save plot some money with some experienced input on good used parts. I am sure there are many on here that reused their U-bolts without issues. I wouldn't call someone an *** if they asked about saving money by reusing used parts.

I too have reused u bolts without issue. If you want new, you can also take one of the old to NAPA. They have a whole section of them behind the counter.
