Which gas tank

Im wanting to replace my gas tank in a 72 scamp for a couple reasons. There are a few dents on the bottom,a cut wire,and I want to eliminate the evap can. The can and hardware were off when I bought the car so I put it all together and it still smells like gas and runs a bit rougher then prior to having it on. What years of tanks can I use that didnt have the can lines on them. Thanks for any help/advice.

A new or different tank wouldn't have any bearing on a cut wire.

Thanks for the inputs. Redfish the wire was just one of the few items the main is wantng to get rid of that can and the line that runs from the tank to the can. My fuel gauge is working do Im not quiet sure what it goes to unless it was a warning light?
